Apple Rolls Out iOS 26 With Big Changes, But Older iPhones Miss Out

ISLAMABAD: Apple has officially launched iOS 26 today (September 15), calling it one of the biggest iPhone software upgrades in years. The update promises fresh features and a new look, but not every iPhone will get it.

For users in Pakistan, the update is expected to roll out between 9 and 11 PM. Apple advises charging your phone, backing up data, and preparing for what may feel like a completely new device once iOS 26 is installed.

iPhone XS and XR users left behind
Every new release comes with winners and losers. This year, owners of the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR will not receive iOS 26. These devices, still common in Pakistan’s second-hand market, are now officially outdated in Apple’s ecosystem.

On the other hand, the iPhone 11 series and all newer models qualify. That means the minimum supported devices are the iPhone 11, second-generation iPhone SE, and everything released afterward.

Here’s the full list of supported iPhones:

  • iPhone SE (2nd generation and later)
  • iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12 lineup
  • iPhone 13 lineup
  • iPhone 14 lineup
  • iPhone 15 lineup
  • iPhone 16 lineup, including iPhone 16e
  • Upcoming iPhone 17 series

If your device is not on this list, you will miss out on new features and future apps that depend on iOS 26. Apple’s strategy often nudges users toward upgrading when software support ends.

A bold new design: Liquid Glass theme
The most striking change is Apple’s new design language, called Liquid Glass. It gives iPhones a smoother, more modern interface. Apple has also shifted from traditional version numbering to year-based naming, which explains the jump from iOS 18 to iOS 26.

With fresh visuals and broader functionality, iOS 26 could feel like a complete makeover for supported iPhones β€” but only if your device makes the cut.
