QUETTA: A former JUI-F minister, Maulvi Ghulam Sarwar Musakhail, has been arrested in Quetta after serious allegations of harassment, threats, and attempted assault against Balochistan Communications Secretary Lal Jan Jafar.
The arrest followed multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) lodged at two different police stations. Authorities confirmed that investigations are underway and that the FIRs include charges of harassment, criminal intimidation, and attempted assault.
According to the complaint, Jafar accused the former JUI-F minister of storming into his office during office hours. He claimed Sarwar verbally abused him and attempted to intimidate him over development schemes. Jafar said the minister demanded a βsettling of accountsβ and became aggressive when asked to leave.
The complaint further stated that Sarwar threatened Jafar and his family. Later, unidentified men allegedly linked to Sarwar visited Jafarβs home, harassed his family, and wrote threatening messages on the walls and door of the residence.
Local sources suggest the confrontation may have been fuelled by a longstanding political rivalry between the two, mainly linked to development project allocations in their district.
In the FIR filed at Civil Line Police Station, Jafar detailed the incident, noting that Sarwar had a history of aggressive behavior. He claimed that the former JUI-F minister had also previously assaulted government officials.
Law enforcement agencies have assured that strict legal action will be taken after the investigation. Meanwhile, the case has stirred debate in political circles, with many observing that tensions between rival groups in the province are intensifying.
Officials stressed that the safety of government staff remains a top priority and any attempt to intimidate civil servants will be dealt with firmly.
