Indian actor and model Urvashi Rautela has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged illegal operations of the online betting platform 1xBet. The agency has called her to appear at its Delhi headquarters on Tuesday.
Former Member of Parliament and actress Mimi Chakraborty has also been summoned a day earlier in connection with the same probe. Both celebrities are reportedly being questioned for their previous endorsements of online betting apps.
An ED official said that after their appearance, statements will be recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The investigation is part of a broader effort to probe money laundering and financial irregularities linked to online gaming and betting platforms.
These platforms have allegedly used celebrity endorsements to attract users and collect funds. Authorities claim that some apps may have engaged in tax evasion and defrauded their customers of large sums of money.
