ISLAMABAD β The government has announced that Islamabad-Rawalpindi to get a modern train service with a 20-minute travel time, says the Interior Ministry. The project will link Islamabadβs Margalla Station to Rawalpindiβs Saddar Station, reducing travel time between the twin cities.
A high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi finalised the plan. Senior officials from the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Islamabad Police, and Rawalpindi Commissionerβs Office also attended the session.
According to the Interior Ministry, the new service will feature imported modern trains offering comfort and speed. The Ministry of Railways will provide the necessary track infrastructure, while the CDA will handle operations.

The framework agreement for the project is expected to be signed within a week, after which work will begin without delay.
Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi described the initiative as a milestone in public welfare. He highlighted that passengers will enjoy fast, reliable, and safe travel between the twin cities.
