Arsenal Secure 2-0 Champions League Win Over Athletic Bilbao

Arsenal

Arsenal started their Champions League campaign with a 2-0 victory against Athletic Bilbao in Spain. The English side had to wait until the second half to make the breakthrough, but substitutes proved decisive.

For much of the first half, Arsenal controlled possession. They created chances but were unable to score. Bilbao defended strongly, frustrating the visitors and keeping the match level at halftime.

The game changed in the 71st minute. Gabriel Martinelli came off the bench and scored within seconds. He picked up a clever flick from Leandro Trossard before finishing calmly to give Arsenal the lead.

In the 87th minute, the roles reversed. Martinelli set up Trossard, who doubled the lead and confirmed the win. The two substitutes completely shifted the momentum and punished Bilbao’s tired defense.

The match also had an injury concern. Viktor Gyokeres was forced off after a head clash with a teammate. He received medical attention before leaving the pitch.

After the game, the coach praised the impact of his substitutes. He highlighted the importance of having strong options on the bench. Fans also applauded the resilience of the team, which stayed patient until the goals arrived.

This result gives Arsenal a perfect start in the Champions League group stage. The club reached the semi-finals last season, and expectations remain high this year. A solid away win adds to their confidence and builds momentum for the upcoming fixtures.

Arsenal will now prepare to face Olympiacos in their next Champions League match. With Martinelli and Trossard in form, the team looks well prepared to continue their European push.
