Islamabad Auctions Two Bus Stands for Rs. 120 Crore

ISLAMABAD β€” The Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) has achieved a significant milestone by auctioning two major bus stands in the capital for a combined annual revenue of Rs. 120 crore. This marks a substantial increase from previous years and underscores the city’s commitment to enhancing municipal revenue through transparent and competitive bidding processes.

The G-9 bus stand was auctioned for Rs. 81.6 million per year, more than double its previous annual lease of Rs. 37.9 million. Similarly, the I-11 bus stand fetched Rs. 38 million annually, a remarkable rise from its earlier lease of Rs. 6.5 million per year. Both contracts are set for a three-year term, with a mandatory 10% annual increase in the lease amount.

These auctions are part of the DMA’s broader strategy to improve revenue generation and reduce reliance on self-collection methods, which had been in place since 2019 due to challenges in previous auction attempts. Under the leadership of Director Dr. Anam Fatima, the G-9 bus stand’s annual recovery improved significantly, with monthly collections doubling from Rs. 2.5 million to Rs. 5.5 million by mid-2025.

The success of these auctions not only reflects the effectiveness of the DMA’s reforms but also sets a precedent for future revenue-generating initiatives. The increased funds are expected to bolster the Metropolitan Corporation’s capacity to provide better municipal services to Islamabad’s residents.

In summary, the auctioning of the G-9 and I-11 bus stands for a combined Rs. 120 crore annually signifies a major achievement in Islamabad’s efforts to enhance its financial resources through transparent and competitive processes.
