Pakistan Railways Cancels Three Major Trains Amid Low Demand

LAHORE: Pakistan Railways has announced the suspension of three major trains due to declining passenger numbers.

According to officials, Railways cancels the Karakoram Express, Shah Hussain Express, and Khushhal Khan Khattak Express. Passengers of these trains will now be accommodated on the Business Express.

Alongside the cancellations, several trains are facing long delays. The Pakistan Express, scheduled to depart for Rawalpindi at 2:00 pm, will now leave at 3:45 pm. Similarly, the Allama Iqbal Express bound for Sialkot is delayed by nearly three hours and will depart at 6:15 pm. Meanwhile, the Tezgam Express for Rawalpindi will now depart at 7:30 pm, two hours behind schedule.

Railway officials assured that passengers affected by these changes are being provided alternative arrangements to minimize inconvenience.

In another development, Railways cancels plans for outdated facilities and announced reforms to improve passenger safety and comfort. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi at the Ministry of Railways.

The meeting emphasized improving services for women and differently-abled persons. The Minister stated that gender-responsive protocols will be introduced across stations and trains to create a safe and dignified travel environment.

As part of the plan, awareness posters will be displayed at stations and inside trains, while regular announcements will highlight safety measures. Railway staff will also undergo gender sensitization and specialized training.

The Ministry confirmed that a nationwide awareness campaign will be launched to ensure women’s safety during travel.

With passenger traffic falling, Pakistan Railways is taking steps to balance demand while focusing on passenger welfare and safety reforms.
