Gujranwala NCCIA Uncovers Major Crypto Investment Scam Targeting Citizens

GUJRANWALA – The Cybercrime Reporting Centre of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Gujranwala has uncovered a major crypto investment scam targeting unsuspecting individuals online.

The operation began after a resident of Sangla Hill filed a complaint, claiming he lost Rs1.28 million to fraudsters posing as representatives of an international investment company. Authorities said the culprits used fake WhatsApp numbers, international contacts, and misleading online advertisements to lure victims into the fraudulent schemes.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the group behind the crypto investment scam collected significant sums of money through multiple bank accounts and mobile numbers. Officials noted that this appears to be part of a larger trend of digital financial fraud in Pakistan, with scammers increasingly exploiting cryptocurrency-related promises to deceive investors.

In response, the NCCIA registered FIR No. 170/2025 at the Gujranwala police station. Investigators are working to identify all individuals involved and recover the stolen funds. Authorities emphasized that the scheme involves careful planning and sophisticated digital tools, making vigilance critical for potential investors.

The spokesperson for NCCIA warned the public to exercise caution while considering online financial opportunities. β€œDo not trust unverified websites or social media contacts offering high returns,” officials advised.

Experts believe that the crypto investment scam highlights the growing risk of online financial fraud in Pakistan. They urged people to verify all investment offers through official channels and to report suspicious activity immediately.

As the investigation continues, the NCCIA is coordinating with local banks and international cybercrime units to track the perpetrators. Victims of the scam are being advised to cooperate fully with authorities to aid in recovering their funds.

The case serves as a warning that while cryptocurrency can offer legitimate investment opportunities, scammers are increasingly exploiting its popularity to defraud citizens.
