Arsenal 1-1 Manchester City: Late Drama at the Emirates

Arsenal

Arsenal and Manchester City played to a 1-1 draw in a Premier League match on September 21, 2025, at the Emirates Stadium. The game was marked by a dramatic equaliser in stoppage time.

Manchester City took the lead early in the 9th minute. Erling Haaland finished a quick counterattack initiated by Tijjani Reijnders. City’s early goal gave them an advantage, but Arsenal dominated possession throughout the match.

Despite controlling the ball, Arsenal struggled to break down City’s defense. Manchester City set up in a defensive 5-4-1 formation, making it difficult for Arsenal to create clear chances. City’s commitment to defense was evident, as they recorded only 32.8% possessionβ€”the lowest for any Guardiola-managed side in top-flight league play.

In the final moments of the match, substitute Gabriel Martinelli provided the breakthrough. In the 93rd minute, Martinelli latched onto a lofted pass from Eberechi Eze and lobbed the ball over City’s goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to equalise.

The draw leaves Arsenal with 10 points from five games, five behind leaders Liverpool. Manchester City are in ninth place with seven points.

Both teams now look ahead to their upcoming fixtures, aiming to build on their performances and climb the Premier League standings.
