LAHORE – The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a rain alert for the upper regions of the province, warning of heavy stormy rains expected from October 5 to 7. Officials have cautioned that the downpours could increase water levels in rivers and canals, raising the risk of flooding.
According to a PDMA spokesperson, most districts of Punjab are likely to experience intense rainfall during this period. The rains are expected to affect upper river areas, potentially causing a surge in water flow. Citizens have been advised to follow safety guidelines and remain vigilant during the forecasted spell.
PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia stated that the rain alert was issued following directives from the Chief Minister of Punjab. He instructed commissioners, deputy commissioners, and all relevant officers to stay alert and prepare for emergency measures.
“All deputy commissioners and officers must remain in the field to ensure a swift response,” Kathia said, emphasizing proactive monitoring and readiness.
Officials warned that the anticipated rainfall could lead to flooding in rivers and canals, posing a particular threat to low-lying communities. The PDMA has stressed the importance of early preparation and coordination among local authorities to mitigate potential damages.
The administration has urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, stay informed through official updates, and take precautions to protect property and personal safety. With this rain alert, Punjab authorities aim to ensure that emergency measures are effectively implemented to safeguard lives and minimize disruptions.
PDMA continues to monitor weather conditions closely and has requested all relevant departments to remain on standby for immediate action. Citizens are advised to heed warnings and cooperate with authorities throughout the heavy rain period.
