Apple’s Foldable iPhone Could Be Its Most Expensive Model

Apple is reportedly finalizing its foldable iPhone design, which could become the company’s most expensive smartphone to date. Industry insiders suggest the device may debut in late 2026.

The foldable iPhone, sometimes called the iPhone Fold or iPhone Flip, has faced repeated delays since 2018. Reports from sources like The Information, The Wall Street Journal, Ming-Chi Kuo, and Mark Gurman indicate that the design and specifications will be completed by mid-2025, with production set for 2026.

Samsung Display recently confirmed supplying foldable OLED panels to a “North American client,” strongly hinting at Apple’s involvement. The device is expected to feature a vertical book-style fold, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series. Analysts note that the hinge will be a key highlight, potentially using titanium alloy and LiquidMetal to minimize creasing.

The foldable iPhone is rumored to have a 7.8-inch internal screen and a 5.5-inch external display. When folded, it may measure 9.5mm thick and just 4.5mm unfolded, making it slimmer than many competitors. Apple is expected to integrate Touch ID in the power button instead of Face ID due to the thin form factor. Dual front cameras and two rear cameras are likely for use in both folded and unfolded modes.

Powered by Apple’s future A20 or A20 Pro chip, the foldable iPhone will likely offer top-tier performance. iOS 27, set to launch in 2026, may include features optimized for the foldable design.

Analysts predict the folding iPhone will be priced between $2,000 and $2,299, making it Apple’s most expensive device ever. Initial production is expected to be limited, with wider availability anticipated in 2027.

While Samsung, Google, and others have already entered the foldable market, Apple’s device could outshine competitors with its design and performance. If released as planned, this foldable iPhone could mark Apple’s boldest and most expensive innovation since the original iPhone in 2007.
