In a significant development in the Ameer Balaj Tipu murder case, Khawaja Tareef Gulshan, known as Teefi Butt, has been arrested in Dubai. He is the prime suspect in the high-profile assassination of Ameer Balaj Tipu, the son of renowned transporter Tipu Truckanwala, who was shot dead during a wedding ceremony in Lahore on February 19, 2024.
The arrest was made possible through a coordinated effort between Punjab Police and Interpol. A senior officer from Pakistan’s Extradition Cell, DSP Khalid Waria, identified and apprehended Butt during a raid at a social gathering in Dubai. Authorities had previously issued a Red Notice for Butt’s arrest after he fled Pakistan following the murder. He had initially sought refuge in Glasgow before traveling to Dubai to renew his visa, leading to his capture.
Following his arrest, legal proceedings for Butt’s extradition to Pakistan are underway. Lahore Police anticipate his transfer within the coming days, where he will face charges related to the murder of Ameer Balaj Tipu. The Crime Control Department (CCD) has formally requested custody of Butt to continue the investigation and ensure accountability.
This arrest marks a pivotal moment in the case, which has been under investigation for over a year. Authorities are committed to bringing all individuals involved in the murder to justice, underscoring the importance of international cooperation in addressing transnational crimes.
