LAHORE β Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari strongly criticized PPP leader Sharjeel Memon for his recent remarks on the need for local body elections in Punjab. Azma Bukhari slams Memon on local body polls demand in Punjab, saying the PPP should first focus on improving governance in Sindh before pointing fingers at others.
Speaking to reporters in Lahore, Bukhari said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government believes in strengthening democratic institutions, but the criticism coming from Sindh was βpolitically motivated.β She stated that Punjab has a clear roadmap for holding local elections and accused the PPP of using the issue for political gain.
Bukhari added that Azma Bukhari slams Memon on local body polls demand in Punjab because the PPP has failed to deliver in its own province. She questioned Memonβs moral standing, saying that the Sindh government should first ensure transparency and public welfare before lecturing Punjab on democracy.
The minister emphasized that the Punjab government is committed to empowering citizens at the grassroots level, but preparations for the polls must follow proper legal and administrative procedures. She clarified that unnecessary pressure from opposition parties would not affect the schedule.
Responding to Memonβs comments, Bukhari said that the PPPβs βselective activismβ exposes its inconsistency. βThey are silent on corruption and inefficiency in Sindh but loud when it comes to Punjab,β she remarked.
Political analysts note that Azma Bukhari slams Memon on local body polls demand in Punjab amid growing tensions between coalition partners at the federal level. The disagreement reflects the broader struggle for influence between PML-N and PPP in the countryβs largest province.
In conclusion, Bukhari reiterated that Punjab will hold local body elections in due time, ensuring fairness and transparency. She advised PPP leaders to focus on governance instead of political theatrics, reaffirming PML-Nβs commitment to democratic reforms and public service.
