Punjab Cabinet Approves 169 Agenda Items In Key Meeting

The Punjab cabinet approved 169 agenda items in its latest meeting, marking a significant step in governance. Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari shared details during a press briefing, highlighting development projects, flood relief measures, and political tensions.

Bukhari said the province faced unusually heavy monsoon rains this year, which caused severe flooding and impacted over 4.7 million people. She credited the government’s preparedness for limiting losses. β€œIf the Punjab government had not been ready, damage could have been far worse,” she noted.

The minister confirmed that 174 snake bite cases were reported after the floods but assured that no fatalities occurred due to timely medical care. She also announced that financial aid distribution to flood victims will start on October 17. Surveys in 400 villages have already been completed, with support also planned for communities living near rivers.

Highlighting welfare initiatives, Bukhari pointed to the Apna Ghar Apni Chhat housing scheme, laptop distribution programs for students, and new public transport projects launched by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. She also revealed that Civil Defense employees will receive a Rs15,000 salary increase.

Much of the briefing, however, focused on growing disputes with the Sindh government. Bukhari accused Sindh officials of using natural disasters for political purposes instead of delivering real relief. She compared Punjab’s proactive flood response with what she described as Sindh’s lack of concrete action.

β€œThe Sindh government is under pressure from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s performance,” Bukhari claimed. She challenged Sindh leaders to showcase 17 projects achieved in their 17 years in power.

The Punjab cabinet approvals, according to Bukhari, reflect the government’s broader commitment to governance, development, and relief measures. She concluded by saying Punjab continues to act as a β€œbig brother” in the federation while resisting unfair criticism.

With these Punjab cabinet approvals, the provincial leadership aims to balance immediate relief with long-term development, setting the tone for future policies.
