LAHORE β Khwaja Tareef Butt, commonly known as Teefi Butt, the prime suspect in the high-profile Ameer Balaj Tipu murder case, was reportedly killed during a police encounter near Rahim Yar Khan on Friday, according to officials.
Police sources said that Teefi Butt was being transported to Lahore when his associates attacked the police convoy. During the chaos, he was allegedly shot dead by his own companions in what authorities described as an encounter.
The suspect had been arrested in Dubai through Interpol a day earlier and was extradited to Pakistan after a Dubai court handed him over to the Punjab Police. Before his transfer, Teefi Butt appeared before a Dubai court and consented to return to Pakistan to face charges related to the murder case.
Officials stated that the shootout occurred while he was en route to Lahore under heavy security. His death has once again brought the Ameer Balaj Tipu murder case into the spotlight, raising questions about the chain of targeted killings linked to the case.
Ameer Balaj Tipu, the son of late businessman Tipu Truckan Wala, was shot dead on February 18, 2024, during a wedding ceremony in Lahoreβs Thokar Niaz Beg area. Two people were injured in the attack, while the assailant was killed on the spot by the victimβs guards.
Earlier, in August 2024, another suspect, Ahsan Shahβknown to be close to Balaj Tipuβwas also killed in a police encounter. Investigations revealed that he, along with Goggi Butt, had helped plan the murder.

A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) later reported that Goggi Butt had orchestrated the killing and maintained contact with Teefi Butt. The JIT is expected to request the cancellation of Goggi Buttβs bail in the coming hearings.
The murder of Balaj Tipu adds to a long history of targeted attacks on the family, as his father, Amir Muhammad Khan (Tipu Truckan Wala), was also assassinated at Lahore Airport in 2010.
