The world’s largest Monopoly collection belongs to a passionate fan who has turned a simple board game into a lifelong pursuit. What began as a casual purchase during a holiday has now grown into thousands of unique Monopoly sets, earning multiple Guinness World Records and worldwide recognition.
The collector, based in the United Kingdom, currently owns 4,379 different Monopoly editions — a number officially verified by Guinness last year. It was the fourth time he had broken his own record. His vast Monopoly collection includes everything from classic editions to rare, limited releases from hotels, countries, and corporations. One standout piece is the exclusive Park Hyatt Sydney edition, which can only be purchased by hotel guests.
Over the past 25 years, he has spent around £400,000 building his Monopoly collection. Despite the cost, he views it as a rewarding and joyful hobby. His most expensive set, a silver edition from London, originally retailed for £2,500 but was bought for much less through eBay. To preserve value, nearly all his sets remain unopened and stored safely in a rented warehouse in Ashford, Middlesex.
For him, collecting Monopoly is about the thrill of discovery. In the early 2000s, he would search car-boot sales and secondhand shops for rare finds. Today, the internet connects him with sellers around the world, from Japan to Brazil. Even after all these years, the excitement of tracking down a new edition remains unchanged.
Beyond the records, his hobby has introduced him to a global community of collectors. Some have even flown to the UK to exchange rare editions and share their passion for the game. He has also appeared on TV shows and visited the original Monopoly factory — experiences he never imagined when buying his first set.
As Monopoly approaches its 100th anniversary in 2035, he hopes to expand his collection to 5,000 sets and one day display them in a public exhibit. For now, the hunt continues — one property, one edition, and one Monopoly box at a time.
