The Punjab government has launched an ambitious project to convert more than 300 public colleges to solar energy systems. The Over 300 Punjab Colleges Set to Go Solar Under Rs. 2.9 Billion Initiative aims to reduce electricity costs, promote clean energy, and ensure uninterrupted power supply in educational institutions.
According to official reports, the Punjab Higher Education Department (HED) is leading the initiative with full support from the provincial government. The Rs. 2.9 billion project will be implemented in phases, starting with government colleges in major cities such as Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, and Multan.
Officials stated that the solar conversion plan will help colleges save millions of rupees annually on electricity bills. These savings can then be used to improve infrastructure, laboratories, and learning facilities.
