President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday declared that Pakistan would make “no compromise” on its sovereignty following overnight military action along the Afghan border.
According to state broadcaster PTV News, Pakistan’s security forces destroyed “several” border posts belonging to Afghanistan after retaliating against attacks launched by the Afghan Taliban. Security officials confirmed that Pakistan has so far captured 19 Afghan border posts that were being used to target its positions.
The operation came after repeated cross-border assaults, which officials said threatened Pakistan’s territorial integrity. The government stated that the response was necessary to safeguard national security and protect civilians living near the border regions.
President Zardari emphasized that Pakistan’s sovereignty was non-negotiable and that any violation would be met with a firm response. “We will defend every inch of our land,” he said, adding that Pakistan remains committed to peace but will not tolerate aggression.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed similar sentiments, praising the armed forces for their swift and decisive action. He reaffirmed that maintaining Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial control is the government’s top priority.
The statement comes amid growing tensions between Islamabad and Kabul over security concerns. Pakistan has repeatedly accused Afghan-based militants of carrying out attacks on its soil, while Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government has denied direct involvement.
Analysts noted that this latest confrontation could further strain relations between the two neighboring countries. However, officials in Islamabad have maintained that Pakistan still seeks peaceful cooperation with Afghanistan, provided that its sovereignty and border integrity are respected.
As military operations continue in the region, authorities have heightened border surveillance and security measures to prevent further cross-border incursions.
The recent developments underscore Pakistan’s strong stance that there will be no compromise on sovereignty, signaling a firm approach to national defense amid rising border tensions.
