Pakistan’s left-arm spinner Noman Ali delivered a match-turning spell against South Africa on day two of the first Test at the Gaddafi Stadium on Monday. His brilliant bowling helped Pakistan tighten their grip on the match as South Africa’s strong start collapsed dramatically after tea.
The visitors were cruising comfortably at 175-3 before Noman Ali, in partnership with off-spinner Sajid Khan, triggered a major collapse. In just ten overs, South Africa slipped from 175-3 to 200-6, losing three key wickets in quick succession.
Tristan Stubbs was caught behind for eight, while Dewald Brevis was dismissed for a golden duck. Kyle Verreynne also struggled, scoring only six runs from 19 balls. By the end of the day, South Africa were 216-6, with Tony de Zorzi unbeaten on 81 and Senuran Muthusamy not out on six.
Noman Ali was the star performer, taking four vital wickets and maintaining excellent control throughout his spell. His consistent line and length troubled the South African middle order, ensuring Pakistan stayed in command.
Speaking after the day’s play, Noman said the team’s goal was to dismiss South Africa quickly on day three. “We will try to get them out early and take a solid lead,” he stated.
The spinner also praised his bowling partnership with Sajid Khan, noting how their combined effort created pressure. “Sajid and I bowl as a pair. If he gets wickets, I support him, and we work together to build pressure,” he explained.
Looking ahead, Noman Ali expressed hope that Pakistan could gain a lead of over 100 runs to set a challenging target for South Africa in the fourth innings. With the pitch expected to slow down further, his spin partnership could remain Pakistan’s key weapon in the coming days.
