Massive Cut Ahead? Petrol Price Expected to Fall from October 16!

Massive Cut Ahead Petrol Price Expected to Fall from October 16!

ISLAMABAD: Consumers across Pakistan may get some much-needed relief as the government is expected to reduce the petrol price starting October 16, 2025.

According to initial estimates from the oil industry, the petrol price could drop by Rs6.10 per litre, while the rate of high-speed diesel may decrease by Rs1 per litre. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has received the working from the industry and will review it before forwarding a summary to the Ministry of Finance for final approval.

As per the proposal, kerosene oil may become cheaper by Rs2.75 per litre, and light diesel oil could see a reduction of Rs1.64 per litre. The Ministry of Finance will make the final decision and issue an official notification once OGRA’s summary is reviewed. The revised petrol price and other fuel rates will take effect from October 16 after the announcement.

However, industry sources have cautioned that the expected reduction might be affected if the government increases petroleum levy or sales tax in the upcoming review. Any such adjustment could reduce or completely offset the anticipated relief for consumers.

Currently, as of October 1, 2025, petrol (super) is priced at Rs268.68 per litre, while high-speed diesel costs Rs276.81 per litre.

The expected decrease comes as a welcome development for citizens grappling with inflation and high transport costs. The final rates will be confirmed after approval from the Ministry of Finance, and consumers can check the updated prices and nearest filling stations through the Shell Station Locator once the notification is issued.
