A tragic incident shook Indian domestic cricket on Sunday as veteran fast bowler Ahmer Khan collapsed and died moments after completing his final over during a local match in Muradabad district, Uttar Pradesh.
According to Indian media, the heartbreaking event occurred at the Bilari Sugar Mill Ground during a game organized by the Uttar Pradesh Veterans Cricket Association. The match was played between local teams Muradabad and Sambhal.
Muradabad batted first and set a strong target. In the final over, Ahmer Khan was tasked with defending 14 runs from the last four balls. His disciplined bowling helped his team secure an 11-run victory. However, the celebration quickly turned into tragedy when the bowler suddenly collapsed on the field.
Witnesses said that Ahmer Khan appeared to struggle for breath right after delivering the final ball. Teammates and a doctor present at the venue rushed to assist him. CPR was administered immediately before he was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors sadly declared him dead on arrival.
Local cricket officials expressed deep sorrow over the loss. They described him as a dedicated and respected player who had been actively participating in veteran cricket tournaments for many years. His sudden death has left players, fans, and organizers in shock.
