LAHORE – The Punjab government’s flagship housing initiative, Apni Chhat Apna Ghar, continues to transform lives as more than 95,000 families have received loans to build their homes across the province.
During a recent review meeting chaired by Secretary Housing Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, Program Director Waleed Baig shared the latest progress of the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar project.
According to the report, 95,600 families have benefited so far, while 82,931 houses are currently under construction. Out of these, 20,940 houses have already been completed, bringing stability and hope to many low-income households.
In addition, 59,510 families have received the second installment of their loans to continue construction. The program, launched under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aims to provide housing loans to 100,000 families by the end of October.
The spokesperson for the Housing Department revealed that over Rs113 billion in loans have been disbursed under the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar scheme so far. Over the next five years, the program plans to extend financial support to 500,000 families, allowing them to build safe and affordable homes.
The initiative operates through three main models — construction on state-owned land, affordable housing in private schemes, and interest-free home loans for families who own small plots. This flexible approach ensures that people from diverse economic backgrounds can benefit from the scheme.
