ATC Issues Non-Bailable Arrest Warrant for Aleema Khan in Protest Case

RAWALPINDI โ€“ The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, in connection with the November 26 protest case.

The order was passed by Special Court Judge Amjad Ali Shah after Aleema Khan and her lawyer failed to appear for the scheduled hearing. The court also issued a notice to her guarantor, directing that she be produced before the court at the next hearing.

Court Takes Notice of Absence

During Fridayโ€™s proceedings, the prosecution informed the court that Aleema Khan had neither appeared nor filed any exemption request for personal attendance. Prosecutor Zaheer Shah argued that the accused was deliberately avoiding court appearances, obstructing the legal process.

He requested the court to issue a non-bailable arrest warrant and a show-cause notice for the cancellation of her bail under Section 497 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

After reviewing the arguments, the court accepted the prosecutionโ€™s request and issued the non-bailable arrest warrant. Judge Amjad Ali Shah also directed the guarantor to ensure that Aleema Khan is presented at the next hearing.

Prosecution Alleges Delay in Legal Proceedings

Prosecutor Zaheer Shah stated that Aleema Khan was taking undue advantage of her bail and delaying the judicial process. He added that her repeated absence suggested an attempt to evade the proceedings.

The court agreed with the prosecutionโ€™s stance, observing that the accused had failed to comply with previous court orders despite being granted bail.

Next Hearing on October 20

Following the issuance of the arrest warrant and notices, the hearing was adjourned until October 20. The court made it clear that Aleema Khan must appear in person at the next session.
