Colombia has strongly accused the United States of violating its national sovereignty after a reported military strike was carried out inside Colombian territory. The government in Bogotá said it was not informed beforehand and has demanded a full explanation from Washington.
According to official statements, the alleged strike targeted a suspected armed group near the country’s southern border. Colombian authorities said the operation caused damage in the area and endangered local civilians. The Foreign Ministry called the action “unacceptable” and a clear breach of international law.
Officials emphasized that Colombia values its relationship with the United States but expects mutual respect and transparency in all security matters. The government has formally lodged a protest note and requested an urgent clarification about who authorized the operation and what objectives were pursued.
Local reports indicate that the strike may have been part of a counter-narcotics or anti-insurgency mission, though the U.S. has not yet issued a detailed statement. American officials have only said that the military remains committed to “regional security partnerships.”
Colombian leaders and opposition parties have united in condemning the incident, urging the government to defend national interests. Human rights groups also expressed concern about the possible civilian impact and called for an independent investigation into the event.
The dispute comes at a time when Colombia and the U.S. have been strengthening cooperation against drug trafficking and organized crime. Analysts warn that this latest controversy could strain diplomatic ties if not handled carefully through dialogue.
