The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has announced strict action against consumers generating electricity beyond their approved solar capacity. The utility has decided to cancel the licenses of individuals and businesses producing power in excess of their sanctioned solar generation limit.
The move comes after an internal review found that several consumers were producing significantly more electricity than allowed. According to officials, some users had installed additional solar panels without authorization, resulting in higher-than-permitted energy generation. This practice violates the rules set by both the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and LESCO.
LESCO had originally issued licenses under clear terms, permitting consumers to generate electricity up to a fixed limit. However, unauthorized system expansions have led to excessive production, creating regulatory and technical challenges. The company said the violations were detected through Maximum Demand Indicator (MDI) readings, which monitor real-time power generation levels.
After confirming the irregularities, LESCO began sending formal notices to consumers found breaching their approved limits. The company stated that license cancellations would follow if users fail to comply with the legal requirements.
Officials emphasized that maintaining compliance is crucial for grid stability and fair energy distribution. Generating electricity beyond the approved limit not only breaches licensing terms but also risks overloading the power network.
LESCO urged all solar power producers to review their systems and ensure they operate within their authorized capacity. The company also reminded consumers that any changes to solar setups must be reported and approved by the authorities to avoid penalties.
This latest step by LESCO aims to enforce accountability, ensure regulatory compliance, and maintain the integrity of the national energy framework.
