ISLAMABAD โ Former Prime Minister Imran Khan continues to remain in custody for over two years, and fresh reports have now emerged regarding the conditions of his imprisonment.
Federal Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has suggested that the PTI founder could be moved from Adiala Jail to his Bani Gala residence if the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) submits a formal written request. The proposal has sparked widespread discussion across the country, with many debating its political and humanitarian implications.
According to the minister, the relocation would allow Imran Khanโs family and party leaders to meet him daily. He added that the government was ready to declare Bani Gala a sub-jail, providing Khan with a more comfortable environment where he could even engage in leisure activities like playing Ludo with visitors.
However, Chaudhry clarified that while Khan would not be released, the move could reduce overcrowding at Adiala Jail, which currently holds around 8,000 inmates.
Reacting to the statement, senior PTI leader Asad Qaiser said the party might consider the proposal if the government demonstrates genuine intent. He stressed that Imran Khan has already served more than two years in detention and remains legally eligible for bail. Qaiser also called on authorities to permit regular family visits as a goodwill measure.
This would not be the first time Bani Gala serves as a sub-jail. Earlier in January 2024, Khanโs wife Bushra Bibi was placed under house arrest there following her conviction in the Toshakhana case. She was later moved back to Adiala Jail by court order after claiming she had been poisoned.

The proposal to shift Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to Bani Gala has reignited political debate across Pakistan. Supporters view it as a humane step, while critics argue it could grant the former premier undue privilege. The decision now rests on whether PTI formally accepts the governmentโs offer.
