Pakistani-British Chef Crowned Champion At UK National Curry Awards

Pakistani-British chef Sunia Imran has won the UK National Curry Week Cook-Off 2025, held in London’s Covent Garden. The annual event brought together six of the country’s most talented home chefs to celebrate creativity and the enduring influence of curry in British cuisine.

Judged by experts from MasterChef, The Great British Menu, and leading UK restaurants, the contest showcased innovation, skill, and authenticity. National Curry Week, founded in 1998, honors the chefs and communities that have shaped Britain’s rich and diverse culinary traditions.

The Cook-Off included five intense rounds designed to test timing, creativity, and precision. Contestants were given surprise dishes to recreate within tight deadlines, with eliminations after every stage. Sunia stood out from the beginning, winning four out of five rounds and ultimately taking home the championship title.

The judging panel praised her β€œrefined yet soulful approach to South Asian cooking,” highlighting her balance of flavor, heritage, and originality. β€œSunia’s dishes reflect both heart and heritage,” the judges said, commending her ability to blend traditional techniques with modern flair.

As the winner, Sunia received a Β£1,000 cash prize, which she donated to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. Beyond her culinary achievements, she works as a Senior IT Project Delivery Manager for a UK government department.

Sunia’s passion for food shines through her social media, where she shares easy and vibrant recipes inspired by Pakistani and South Asian home cooking. She said the competition was β€œan inspiring and challenging experience,” emphasizing that cooking for her is about β€œconnection and community.”

β€œWinning this title is a huge honor,” she told reporters. β€œGrowing up in Lahore, our meals were filled with love and laughter. My mother taught me that cooking is about bringing people together.”

Sunia also noted that the event celebrates Britain’s lasting love for curry and the diversity of its food culture. Her win reflects how South Asian flavors continue to shape the heart of modern British cuisine.
