Instagram Introduces ‘Watch History’ to Solve Lost Reels Problem

Instagram Introduces 'Watch History' to Solve Lost Reels Problem

Instagram has introduced a new feature called Watch History, allowing users to view Reels they have previously watched. The update, announced on Friday, aims to make it easier for users to rediscover videos they may have lost or missed.

The new feature comes after repeated requests from Instagram users worldwide. Many have struggled to find Reels after app crashes or after accidentally skipping a video. Instagram’s Watch History solves this problem by providing a simple and organized way to track previously viewed content.

In a video announcement, Instagram head Adam Mosseri said, β€œHave you ever tried to get back to a reel that you’d seen on Instagram and you just can’t find it? Well, there is a new feature that should help.”

Users can access Watch History by going to Profile β†’ Settings β†’ Your Activity β†’ Watch History. Here, every Reel they have viewed will appear in a list. The feature allows sorting by date, including the past week, month, or a custom range. Users can also remove specific videos from their history.

Unlike TikTok, Instagram adds extra flexibility by letting users sort their history chronologically, reverse chronologically, or by creator. This provides a cleaner and more intuitive way to track viewing habits without endless scrolling through the Reels feed.

Previously, Instagram users had to rely on complex workarounds, such as downloading account data, to find lost Reels. Instagram’s new update eliminates this hassle and offers seamless access within the app.

Since the launch of Instagram Reels in 2020, Meta has upgraded the platform to compete with TikTok. Recent updates include linking multiple Reels in a series and Picture-in-Picture (PiP) viewing. Watch History now further enhances Instagram’s short-video experience.

By making it easier to revisit entertainment, tutorials, recipes, or travel inspiration, Instagram ensures users can enjoy content without worrying about losing it. The update strengthens Instagram’s push toward a more personalized, content-centric platform.
