The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Shan Masood as the Consultant for International Cricket and Players’ Affairs. The announcement was made by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi during a dinner hosted at the Prime Minister’s House on Friday.
The decision follows the PCB’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its international cricket operations. It comes after the resignation of Usman Wahla, who had served as Director of International Cricket Operations since May 2023. Wahla took over the position from Zakir Khan, whose contract ended in April 2023.
According to the PCB’s earlier job advertisement, the director’s role involves key responsibilities such as organizing international matches, managing overseas tours, and preparing Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) for Pakistan’s national and developmental teams. The position also covers planning for ICC meetings, overseeing logistics, and managing budgets for international tournaments.
By bringing Shan Masood into this advisory position, the PCB aims to improve coordination between players and management. His experience as Test captain and long-standing presence in international cricket make him a strong fit for the role. Masood’s appointment is seen as part of a broader strategy to bring player insight into administrative decision-making.
So far, Shan Masood has represented Pakistan in 44 Test matches, 9 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and 19 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) since making his debut against South Africa in 2013. As a captain, he has led Pakistan in 14 matches, winning four and losing ten. His latest series as Test skipper against South Africa ended in a 1-1 draw.
The PCB expects Masood’s new role to help strengthen communication between the board and the national squad, ensuring smoother planning for international commitments and player welfare.
