Microsoft Teams is preparing to launch a new update that will automatically detect and update a user’s work location when they connect to an office Wi-Fi network. The update is expected to roll out globally in December 2025 and is designed to improve how employees manage their availability in hybrid workplaces.
According to details shared on the Microsoft 365 roadmap, the upcoming Microsoft Teams feature will automatically display a user’s building or office location once their device connects to the organization’s Wi-Fi. This automation aims to make it easier for colleagues to know whether someone is working remotely or on-site.
While this change could help reduce confusion about employee locations, it may also raise privacy concerns among users who prefer not to share their physical whereabouts. Microsoft has yet to confirm whether users will be able to disable the automatic location updates or customize who can see their status.
The feature will be available for both Windows and Mac versions of Microsoft Teams and will be deployed globally once finalized. It is currently under development and will likely be tested internally before its full release later in the year.
In recent months, Microsoft Teams has introduced several new productivity tools to enhance communication and organization. One such feature allows users to save important messages in chats and channels, helping them quickly revisit key information without scrolling through long conversations.
Additionally, Microsoft has announced plans to roll out configurable keyboard shortcuts, allowing users to assign custom keys for frequently used emojis, symbols, and actions.
