The Embassy of Russia in Pakistan has dismissed a viral video circulating on social media that falsely claims to show President Vladimir Putin threatening Pakistan over tensions with Afghanistan. Officials have confirmed that the footage is β100% fakeβ and deliberately edited to spread misinformation.
The fake video, shared by several pro-Afghan and Indian accounts on X (formerly Twitter), allegedly depicted President Putin warning Pakistanβs military and expressing support for Afghanistan. The clip quickly gained traction online, sparking confusion and debate amid the ongoing cross-border tensions.
In an official statement, the Russian Embassy clarified that the video was fabricated. The original footage was taken from a press interaction following the meeting of the Russian Geographical Societyβs Board of Trustees held on October 23, 2025. During that event, President Putin did not mention Pakistan or Afghanistan in any context.
Calling the viral post βmisleading and manipulative,β the embassy warned the public against believing such false narratives. It emphasized that spreading fake videos or misinformation harms diplomatic relations and can increase tensions in sensitive regions.
The Russian Embassy reaffirmed that Moscow continues to promote peace and dialogue in South Asia. It stressed that Russia maintains friendly and balanced ties with both Pakistan and Afghanistan, encouraging both nations to resolve issues through cooperation and diplomacy.
The incident highlights the growing challenge of fake news and AI-generated misinformation on social media platforms. As tensions rise between neighboring countries, authorities urge users to verify information from credible sources before sharing.
The embassyβs firm response aims to put an end to the misleading claims surrounding President Putinβs statement and reinforce Russiaβs neutral stance in regional affairs.
