Bengaluru Bank in Panic After Wi-Fi Renamed ‘Pakistan Zindabad’

Panic erupted in a private bank in Bengaluru, Karnataka, after its Wi-Fi network was reportedly renamed “Pakistan Zindabad”, raising alarm among staff and customers. The unusual network name was first noticed two days ago by Govardhan Singh, a member of Bajrang Dal, the youth wing of the Hindu nationalist organization Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). Concerned about the potentially anti-national message, Singh lodged a formal complaint with local police.

According to reports, Bajrang Dal members alleged that the incident reflected the presence of anti-national elements in the vicinity. The network name caused confusion and tension within the bank, as employees and visitors were uncertain whether the change was intentional or malicious.

The bank, however, clarified that the incident was not politically motivated. A spokesperson stated that the Wi-Fi system had recently undergone maintenance by a local technician, and the network name change occurred after the repair. The bank insisted that the incident was likely an oversight or miscommunication during the system update.

Police officials confirmed that they had attempted to contact the technician for further investigation. However, he had already left the premises, and his phone was switched off, making it difficult to verify the circumstances immediately. Authorities have registered a formal case in connection with the incident and launched a search to locate the technician and clarify the situation.

The police emphasized that while the complaint was taken seriously, preliminary findings suggested that the network name change was likely accidental rather than a deliberate act of anti-national behavior. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage and technical logs to trace the exact sequence of events.

The incident caused temporary panic and garnered significant media attention, highlighting how simple technical issues can escalate into public concern, especially in sensitive environments. Bank officials assured customers that security measures were intact and that there was no actual threat to the institution or its clients.

This incident serves as a reminder for organizations to carefully monitor network security settings and communications during technical maintenance, particularly in public-facing institutions, to prevent misunderstandings or unnecessary alarm.
