CPEC Brings New Promise To Gilgit-Baltistan, Says Asif Ali Zardari

President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) had opened new avenues of progress and prosperity in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB). Speaking at an event marking the 78th anniversary of the region’s liberation from Dogra rule, he emphasized that CPEC had transformed GB by creating fresh opportunities for trade, connectivity, and livelihood.

“The CPEC has brought new opportunities for livelihood, trade, and connectivity to GB. Our collective task is to ensure that these opportunities reach every valley and village,” President Zardari stated. He urged all stakeholders to work together to ensure that the benefits of development under CPEC reach every citizen of the region.

The president praised the people of Gilgit-Baltistan for their commitment and sacrifices over the past seven decades. He said the people of GB had always stood “shoulder to shoulder” with the rest of Pakistan, guarding the nation’s borders and contributing to its progress.

Highlighting the region’s importance, he called GB “the crown of Pakistan” and “a symbol of our lasting friendship with China.” He added that the Karakoram Highway was a living symbol of the partnership between Pakistan and China, made stronger through projects like CPEC.

President Zardari also expressed solidarity with the people of occupied Kashmir, reaffirming Pakistan’s support for their right to freedom in line with United Nations resolutions.

Discussing the future of Gilgit-Baltistan, he noted its immense potential for tourism and hydroelectric power generation. He also proposed the idea of launching a regional airline to improve connectivity and promote tourism in the area.

The president concluded by reiterating his commitment to the development and well-being of GB. “May the people of GB continue to play their full part in building a progressive, prosperous Pakistan,” he said.

Through CPEC and national efforts, he added, Gilgit-Baltistan could become a model of sustainable growth, education, and equality for the entire country.
