Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has said that Pakistan’s blue economy will prove to be a major game changer for the country’s economic future. Speaking virtually at the Pakistan International Maritime Expo and Conference 2025, he said the government is determined to continue reforms that support long-term growth and stability.
The minister noted that the blue economy offers vast investment opportunities, with seafood exports reaching around $500 million. He added that the overall value of the sector has now crossed one billion dollars, making it a potential game changer for Pakistan’s economic expansion and global trade presence.
Economic Stability and Reform Progress
Aurangzeb said that Pakistan’s economy is moving in the right direction, supported by effective fiscal management and international confidence. Inflation and policy rates have fallen notably, while three leading global rating agencies have acknowledged the government’s positive economic measures. He also appreciated the support from friendly nations, which has helped stabilise trade and boost investor confidence.
The minister emphasised that the government’s reform agenda aims to achieve sustainable development through policy continuity and transparency. According to him, the focus remains on promoting key sectors such as energy, exports, and maritime trade — all of which can turn the blue economy into a true game changer.
Maritime Sector Modernisation
Aurangzeb said the government is upgrading key ports, including Karachi, Gwadar, and Port Qasim, to improve trade efficiency and attract investment. He added that coordination among ministries has been strengthened to ensure smooth implementation of projects linked to the maritime economy.
He concluded that continued investment and policy support in the blue economy will not only boost exports but also create jobs and improve Pakistan’s global competitiveness. With consistent progress and strategic partnerships, the blue economy could redefine Pakistan’s path toward economic stability and prosperity.
