Islamabad’s Shaheen Chowk Underpass Opening Date Announced

Islamabad’s Shaheen Chowk Underpass Opening Date Announced

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has officially announced the opening date of the Shaheen Chowk underpass in Islamabad, marking a major milestone in the city’s ongoing infrastructure development. The underpass, designed to ease traffic congestion on Margalla Road, is set to open to the public next week.

According to CDA officials, the Shaheen Chowk underpass will significantly reduce travel time between E-11, D-12, and F-10 sectors, which often experience heavy traffic during peak hours. The project aims to ensure smoother traffic flow and improve road safety in one of Islamabad’s busiest corridors.

The construction of the underpass began earlier this year as part of the Margalla Avenue development project. CDA engineers confirmed that all major civil works, including road carpeting, lighting, and signage, have been completed, while final inspections are underway before the official opening.

CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa stated that the completion of the underpass reflects the authority’s commitment to improving city infrastructure and facilitating commuters. He added that similar projects across Islamabad are progressing rapidly to enhance connectivity and reduce urban congestion.

The Shaheen Chowk underpass is expected to handle thousands of vehicles daily, offering a major relief to residents and reducing travel pressure on adjacent routes such as 10th Avenue and Srinagar Highway.

With its opening, the CDA hopes to further modernize Islamabad’s road network and create safer, faster, and more efficient routes for daily commuters.
