Punjab Launches Dubai-Like Traffic Monitoring System to Curb Violations

Punjab Launches Dubai-Like Traffic Monitoring System to Curb Violations

The Punjab government has officially launched a Dubai-like traffic monitoring system aimed at improving road safety and ensuring strict enforcement of traffic laws across the province.

The initiative introduces state-of-the-art cameras and AI-powered monitoring tools that can automatically detect traffic violations, including overspeeding, signal breaking, and lane violations. The system will send real-time data to central control rooms, helping authorities issue e-challans and track repeat offenders efficiently.

According to officials, the project is modeled after Dubai’s advanced road surveillance network, which has proven effective in reducing accidents and traffic congestion. Punjab’s new system is expected to modernize traffic management in major cities such as Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Faisalabad.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said the system is part of a broader plan to introduce smart governance and urban digitalization in the province. She emphasized that technology-driven solutions are vital for building safer, smarter cities and improving citizens’ quality of life.

Authorities also revealed that the Dubai-like traffic monitoring system will be linked with the Safe City Authority and NADRA databases for efficient fine collection and offender tracking. Public awareness campaigns will also be launched to educate drivers about the new automated system.

With the successful rollout, Punjab becomes one of the first provinces in Pakistan to adopt an AI-enabled traffic monitoring network modeled after global standards.
