Significant progress has been made in the ongoing Data Darbar and Bhati Chowk remodeling and expansion project in Lahore. The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and the Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (TEPA) carried out a large-scale joint operation, supported by the district administration and the Auqaf Department.
During the early morning operation, authorities demolished illegal shops and encroachments built on government land in front of Data Darbar. According to officials, around 16 kanals of state land were successfully retrieved and cleared of all unauthorized structures.
The anti-encroachment operation began at dawn with the help of police contingents and heavy machinery. Officials from the District Administration and the Auqaf Department also took part in the effort to ensure smooth coordination and security throughout the process.
LDA Director General Tahir Farooq personally visited the site to inspect the progress. He was briefed by TEPA Chief Engineer Iqrar Hussain and LDA Director Enforcement Captain (R) Ahmad Faraz about the operation’s outcomes and the next steps for development.
Officials confirmed that the reclaimed land will now be integrated into the Bhati Chowk and Data Darbar remodeling project. The initiative aims to improve traffic flow, upgrade access routes, and enhance the overall beauty of one of Lahore’s most visited religious and historical landmarks.
DG LDA directed teams to remove the debris immediately and instructed the Project Director to begin development work on the newly cleared land without delay. Senior representatives from LDA, TEPA, the Auqaf Department, and the District Administration were present during the operation.
The project is expected to ease congestion in the busy area while preserving the cultural and spiritual importance of Data Darbar, a site that attracts thousands of visitors daily.
