A delegation of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) met PM Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House to hold consultations on the proposed constitutional amendment. The meeting aimed to review key clauses of the draft legislation and exchange views on the proposed changes.
PM Shehbaz was accompanied by senior government officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah, and Attorney General Mansoor Usman. Both sides engaged in a detailed discussion to finalize points of agreement before the bill’s expected presentation in Parliament.
Following the meeting, the PPP delegation departed for Karachi from Noor Khan Airbase on a special flight. According to reports, prominent party leaders such as Farooque Naik, Murtaza Wahab, Irfan Qadir, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Naveed Qamar, and Sherry Rehman were among those who attended the meeting with PM Shehbaz.
Later in the evening, the PPP’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) was scheduled to convene in Karachi at 7:00 PM. The same senior leaders, including Ashraf, Qadir, Qamar, and Rehman, were expected to participate in the high-level meeting to review the outcomes of their discussion with the government.
Government sources revealed that the constitutional amendment bill is likely to be tabled in the Senate on Friday. Officials also claimed that the ruling coalition has secured the required number of votes in the upper house to ensure its passage.
The meeting between PM Shehbaz and the PPP delegation marks a significant step in the government’s efforts to build consensus on constitutional reforms. Both sides emphasized cooperation and coordination to strengthen democratic institutions and uphold parliamentary supremacy.
