The long-awaited GTA 6 has been delayed once again, disappointing millions of eager fans worldwide. Take-Two Interactive confirmed that the highly anticipated game will now release on November 19, 2026, moving the launch back by six months.
In a statement, the company said the delay would allow developers more time to refine the game. “We are giving the team additional time to finish the game with the high level of polish players expect and deserve. Rockstar has our full support, and we are confident they will deliver an unrivaled blockbuster entertainment experience,” the press release stated.
Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, explained in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz that the company feels confident in the new release date. “We are trying very hard to deliver the most extraordinary interactive entertainment experience ever created,” he said, emphasizing that both Take-Two and Rockstar Games are fully aligned in their vision.
The delay marks the second official postponement of GTA 6. The game was initially announced in December 2023 with a 2025 release window. However, the launch was later moved to May 2026 before being delayed again to November 2026. Zelnick had previously told IGN that Take-Two generally meets its release targets, though he acknowledged that extra time is sometimes necessary to perfect a major title.
Despite the delay, the company confirmed that GTA 6 will still release within the same fiscal year as originally planned. When it finally launches, the new entry will arrive thirteen years after its predecessor, GTA 5, which debuted in September 2013.
The delay also means several game studios that had shifted their schedules to avoid competing with Grand Theft Auto may have to adjust again, potentially crowding the late 2026 gaming calendar.
