New York Cityβs first-ever Muslim mayor, Zohran Mamdani, has officially invited the public to apply for roles in his upcoming administration. The new mayor is making history with one of the most open and inclusive hiring processes ever introduced at City Hall.
After defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo in a landmark election, the 34-year-old Democratic Socialist is now calling on New Yorkers from all communities to join his team. His transition committee has launched a public resume portal that allows anyone to apply for key positions, including deputy mayors, commissioners, and senior staff roles.
Open Hiring Across All Departments
According to the transition team, applications are now open for nearly all positions within the Mayorβs Office. The process highlights Zohran Mamdaniβs focus on diversity, transparency, and merit-based recruitment. The goal is to build a team that represents all five boroughs and reflects the cityβs multicultural identity.
How to Apply
Interested candidates can submit their resumes through the official transition website. Applicants are encouraged to include a short statement describing how their experience supports Mamdaniβs vision for an equitable and affordable New York City. The transition team will review applications on a rolling basis as they prepare for Mamdaniβs January 2026 inauguration.
Transition Executive Director Elana Leopold said the administration is seeking top talent from across the city. βWeβre asking New Yorkers to share their experience and join our mission to make this city affordable for everyone,β she said.
A New Era for City Hall
The Zohran Mamdani transition team includes notable figures such as Maria Torres-Springer, Grace Bonilla, Lina Khan, and Melanie Hartzog. While Mamdani plans to retain Jessica Tisch as Police Commissioner, most senior posts remain open. His administration aims to bring in new voices, including community leaders and civic organizers.
With his transparent hiring model, Zohran Mamdani is setting a new standard for open governance, ensuring that City Hall truly reflects the people it serves.
