Cricket Australia Suspends Pakistani Pacer Over Ball-Tampering Scandal

Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Irfan Jr has been suspended for five matches after being found guilty of ball tampering during a Victoria Premier Cricket fixture in Australia. The disciplinary action was confirmed following an official inquiry conducted by a local tribunal.

According to Australian media reports, match officials accused Mohammad Irfan Jr of deliberately changing the condition of the ball during a recent domestic match. After reviewing the evidence, the tribunal upheld the umpires’ charge and imposed a five-match suspension on the 6’6” right-arm pacer.

Background and Career

Irfan Jr relocated to Australia a few years ago, where he now represents local clubs in domestic cricket tournaments. Before moving abroad, he was an active player in Pakistan’s domestic circuit and appeared in several seasons of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The fast bowler made headlines in 2020 when he announced his decision to quit cricket in Pakistan at the age of 25. His decision came after being overlooked for Southern Punjab’s First XI selection, despite his consistent performances. Instead, he was offered a Second XI spot, which prompted him to continue his career overseas.

Performance Record

Throughout his domestic career, Mohammad Irfan Jr has shown impressive bowling figures. He has taken 43 wickets in 35 T20 matches with an average of 22.04. In first-class cricket, he has 80 wickets in 22 matches, averaging 23.65, while in List A cricket, he has 38 wickets in 28 games.

Known for his distinctive bowling action and kabaddi-style wicket celebrations, Irfan was once regarded as one of Pakistan’s most promising young fast bowlers. After relocating, he signed a long-term contract with the Western Suburbs District Cricket Club (WSDCC) in Sydney to continue his career in Australia.

The recent suspension marks a setback for Mohammad Irfan Jr, who was hoping to rebuild his reputation in Australian domestic cricket.
