Wahab Riaz Likely to Be Appointed Head Coach of Pakistan Women’s Team

Wahab Riaz Likely to Be Appointed Head Coach of Pakistan Women’s Team

Former Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz is reportedly being considered for the position of head coach of the national women’s cricket team, according to reliable sources. An official announcement from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected soon.

The coaching position became vacant after the completion of Mohammad Wasim’s tenure. Following his exit, the PCB began reviewing potential candidates to lead the women’s team in its upcoming international assignments.

Wahab Riaz, who has represented Pakistan in all formats of the game, previously served as the senior team manager of the men’s national side and was also part of the PCB’s national selection committee. His extensive cricketing background and recent involvement in administrative roles have strengthened his case for the coaching position.

Although Wahab Riaz does not have direct coaching experience at the international level, sources confirmed that he has successfully completed a Level 2 coaching certification course — one of the key requirements for the role. His deep understanding of the game and leadership experience during his playing career are seen as strong assets by the PCB.

If appointed, Wahab will replace Mohammad Wasim and take charge of the women’s national squad ahead of their upcoming tours. His selection aligns with the PCB’s strategy to bring in experienced cricketers with modern insights to enhance team performance and player development.
