A case has been registered against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) for allegedly spreading hateful and misleading content against state institutions on social media.
According to official sources, the Cyber Crime Reporting Center in Islamabad filed the case following a complaint lodged at the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). The complaint accused Sohail Afridi of sharing and promoting videos containing false, inflammatory, and baseless remarks targeting national security and state institutions.
The First Information Report (FIR) states that the videos aimed to harm the reputation of the state and undermine national security. It also mentioned that Sohail Afridi made โprovocative and misleadingโ statements during a media talk outside Adiala Jail.
The complaint further alleged that PTIโs official social media pages shared similar content, amplifying the controversial video and spreading anti-state narratives online.
Reacting to the development, Federal Minister and PML-N Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Engineer Amir Muqam condemned the remarks made by the KP chief minister. He described Afridiโs statements as โregrettable, irresponsible, and provocative,โ stressing that such comments โcannot be tolerated under any circumstances.โ
Muqam said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa respect the sacrifices of the Pakistan Army and security forces for maintaining peace and stability. He added that spreading hatred in the name of religion or martyrs was โdeeply condemnableโ and only served to โstrengthen the enemyโs narrative.โ
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also criticized the chief ministerโs comments. He stated that questioning the intentions of the armed forces damages both morale and national unity.
Kundi urged Sohail Afridi to act responsibly and uphold the dignity of his constitutional position. He said that politics should focus on cooperation with national institutions rather than confrontation.
