OpenAI is gearing up to release the GPT-5.1 series, which includes GPT-5.1 (base), GPT-5.1 Reasoning, and GPT-5.1 Pro. The Pro version will be available to subscribers at $200 per month.
According to tech sources, the GPT-5.1 models are expected to launch on Azure within weeks, following OpenAIโs regular release cycle. GPT-5 was released on August 7, and the company typically introduces new models every three to four months.
While GPT-5.1 may not be a major upgrade over GPT-5, it is expected to offer faster performance and improved safeguards, particularly for health-related queries. These updates aim to enhance reliability and overall user experience.
In addition to GPT-5.1, OpenAI recently introduced a new Codex model called โcodex-mini-high.โ The Codex Mini is a cost-efficient alternative to the original Codex High, offering similar performance while increasing rate limits by 50%.
OpenAI explained that GPT-5-Codex-Mini is ideal for simpler tasks or for users needing extended usage near rate limits. A new feature automatically prompts users to switch to Codex-Mini when they reach 90% of their rate limit, ensuring uninterrupted workflow.
The Codex Mini allows approximately four times more usage compared to GPT-5-Codex, with a minor tradeoff in capability due to the compact design. ChatGPT Plus, Business, and Education users will benefit from increased rate limits, while Pro and Enterprise accounts receive priority processing for faster performance.
GPT-5.1 is also expected to bring performance enhancements to Codex, making it more efficient for developers and businesses. OpenAIโs advancements continue alongside other tech companies, with Google testing Gemini 3 Pro and reports of a new Claude model in development.
The rollout of GPT-5.1 highlights OpenAIโs commitment to improving AI accessibility, speed, and usability, ensuring users have more powerful tools for productivity and creativity.
