The National Assembly session began today with the 27th Constitutional Amendment listed for final approval after its earlier passage in the Senate. According to the Assemblyโs agenda, lawmakers will discuss 11 major points during the sitting.
Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar is set to present the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill for approval. The bill aims to bring certain constitutional adjustments following extensive consultations between the government and allied parties.
Earlier, the Senate had approved the 27th Constitutional Amendment with an overwhelming two-thirds majority. A total of 64 senators voted in favour, while no votes were cast against the bill. The smooth passage in the upper house was seen as a significant achievement for the government.
Senator Faisal Vawda acknowledged that support from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) played a crucial role in securing the amendmentโs approval. He said that despite political differences, PTI lawmakers recognized the importance of the constitutional change.
However, several opposition parties chose to boycott the Senate session during the voting process. Even so, PTI Senator Saifullah Abro and JUI Senator Ahmed Khan attended and supported the amendment, breaking away from the broader opposition stance.
Government sources said the passage of the amendment marks progress toward political consensus on key legislative matters. The move also reflects growing cooperation between rival parties on constitutional reforms aimed at ensuring stability.
Once approved by the National Assembly, the amendment will be sent to the President for final assent before becoming law. Officials expressed confidence that todayโs session will conclude the process smoothly, reinforcing the governmentโs legislative agenda.
