SOUTH WAZIRISTAN โ Pakistani security forces successfully eliminated all five terrorists, including a suicide bomber, who launched an attack on Wana Cadet College in South Waziristan. The swift and coordinated response by the Pakistan Army prevented what could have been a large-scale tragedy.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the militants tried to storm the college by ramming an explosive-laden vehicle into the main gate of Wana Cadet College. After breaching the entrance, the attackers entered the premises, leading to an intense standoff with security personnel. Troops quickly surrounded the militants in the administrative block and engaged them in combat.
By Wednesday morning, the ISPR confirmed that all five terrorists had been neutralized. Among them was one suicide bomber. The clearance operation inside the college continued due to fears of hidden landmines and explosive devices.
Fortunately, no students or staff were harmed during the assault. Authorities confirmed that around 550 cadets were safely evacuated from Wana Cadet College during the operation.
Federal Minister for Information, Ataullah Tarar, hailed the militaryโs performance, calling it โa great successโ for the armed forces. He said the outcome could have been catastrophic, comparing it to the 2014 Army Public School tragedy in Peshawar. Tarar praised the professionalism of Pakistanโs security forces, stating, โOur military has once again shown its unmatched courage and preparedness.โ
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi linked the attack to Afghanistan, claiming that the militants were Afghan nationals who stayed in touch with their handlers across the border. He said Pakistan had shared evidence with Afghan authorities proving that terrorists were using Afghan soil to plan and execute attacks.
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif echoed these concerns, warning that Pakistan might consider cross-border operations if Afghanistan failed to stop such militant activities.
