Colombo: Pakistan’s cricket team has been fined 20% of their match fees for maintaining a slow over rate during their recent match against Sri Lanka. The penalty was announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) following the completion of the T20I game.
According to ICC regulations, teams are required to maintain a specified over rate throughout the match. Failure to do so results in financial penalties and, in repeated cases, may include suspension of players or captains. Pakistan’s team was found falling behind the required over rate, prompting the fine.
The match saw competitive play, but the slow pace of bowling and delays between overs contributed to the penalty. The ICC emphasized that maintaining over rates is essential to ensure fairness and smooth conduct of matches, particularly in international tournaments.
Pakistan cricket authorities accepted the fine and vowed to address the issue to avoid future penalties. Analysts believe stricter time management and on-field discipline will be crucial in upcoming series.
