Pakistan to Bowl First Against Sri Lanka in Second ODI Despite Shaheen Afridi’s Absence

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan will bowl first in the second One Day International (ODI) against Sri Lanka, aiming to secure a series win. The match comes after a thrilling first ODI victory for the Green Shirts.

Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi has been ruled out of today’s match due to fever and flu. In his absence, all-rounder Salman Agha has been appointed stand-in captain for the crucial fixture. Despite this setback, Pakistan remains determined to maintain its lead in the three-match series, currently 1–0 in their favour.

The team management announced two changes to the playing XI. Shaheen Shah Afridi and Faheem Ashraf have been replaced by Mohammad Wasim Jr and mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed. The adjustments are expected to strengthen Pakistan’s bowling attack against the Lankan side.

In the first ODI at Pindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi, Salman Agha led Pakistan to a thrilling six-run win. Pakistan posted 299 for five in their 50 overs, with key contributions from Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam providing early stability. Quick wickets later threatened the innings, but Hussain Talat and Agha forged a match-defining partnership.

Salman Agha remained unbeaten on 105 from 87 balls, hitting nine boundaries, while Mohammad Nawaz added a rapid 36 not out. Extras, including 13 wides, contributed 24 runs, helping Pakistan reach a competitive total. Despite Wanindu Hasaranga’s valiant all-round effort for Sri Lanka, they fell short, scoring 293 for nine.

With the series on the line, Pakistan looks to continue its winning momentum under Agha’s leadership. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, aims to bounce back and level the series with a strong performance.

The second ODI promises high-stakes cricket, as Pakistan seeks to consolidate its position in the series. Fans will be watching closely to see if the team can overcome the absence of their regular captain and clinch the series early.
