National Women’s One-Day Cup Kicks Off In Faisalabad

The five-team National Women’s One-Day tournament begins today in Faisalabad, promising exciting cricket action. The competition follows a double-league format, where each team will face the others twice. The top two teams will advance to the final.

The defending champions, Stars, will aim to retain their title after defeating Conquerors by five wickets in last season’s final. Other competing teams include Challengers, Invincibles, and Strikers.

Each team initially announced a 20-member squad, which will train at Iqbal Stadium and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) High-Performance Center. The squads will later be trimmed to 15 players before the matches commence.

A total prize pool of PKR 3.55 million has been declared. The tournament winner will receive PKR 1.5 million, while the runner-up will get PKR 1 million. Individual match awards include PKR 25,000 for the Player of the Match, and the Player of the Tournament will earn PKR 200,000.

All matches will primarily take place at Iqbal Stadium and the PCB High-Performance Center Ground. One notable exception is the match between Challengers and Strikers on 22 November, which will be held at Jawad Club Cricket Ground.

The National Women’s One-Day tournament will be live-streamed, allowing cricket fans across Pakistan to follow the action. This event marks a significant step in promoting women’s cricket in the country and providing players with competitive opportunities to showcase their talent.

The PCB hopes the tournament will highlight emerging stars and strengthen the depth of women’s cricket in Pakistan. Teams are expected to display competitive spirit, and spectators can anticipate high-quality matches throughout the 21-game schedule.

With the tournament underway, attention now turns to whether the Stars can defend their title or if a new champion will emerge in this season of the National Women’s One-Day Cup.
