Islamabad: Pakistan and Russia have conducted their first formal security consultations focusing on regional and Asian security issues, officials confirmed on Thursday. The talks are seen as a step toward strengthening bilateral cooperation on defense and strategic matters.
During the consultations, senior officials from both countries discussed counterterrorism measures, regional stability, and emerging security challenges in Asia. The dialogue also explored opportunities for joint training, intelligence sharing, and defense collaboration to address common threats.
A Pakistani foreign office spokesperson emphasized that the consultations aim to enhance mutual understanding and promote peace and stability in the region. Both sides agreed to continue regular exchanges to further strengthen ties and coordinate on security-related matters.
Analysts say the move reflects growing strategic alignment between Islamabad and Moscow, particularly in light of evolving geopolitical dynamics in South and Central Asia. The consultations are expected to pave the way for future defense and security cooperation agreements between the two countries.
